oikos: THE KIDS
oikos is for the entire family - that includes the kids! Children in Kindergarten through sixth grades will enjoy Breakout Labs just for their age level, where they will look at the roles they fulfill within the family unit. Grades will be divided by K-3rd and 4th-6th for Breakout Labs. Labs will be led by Mrs. Candy Macon, Children's Ministry Consultant with the Tennessee Baptist Convention, together with a team of other children's ministry leaders.
The youngest members of our families (birth - age 4) will also enjoy a time during all Main Sessions and Breakout Labs designed with preschoolers in mind - complete with songs, Bible stories and playtime focused on how God Gave Us Families.

oikos: THE STUDENTS
Students from Grade 7 all the way into College will benefit mostly from the Labs listed under "oikos: THE FAMILY". Scroll down to find this section and view Lab titles & descriptions. Sunday Morning Lab 2, all students will be in the Student Building with Mickey Clark leading.

oikos: THE MARRIAGE

Going all the way (Lab 1 option: W.C. 1)
How to remain committed, connected, & communicating to experience life as a married, or re-married, couple for the long haul.
 
Gary Miller is the Lead Pastor at Crossroads Fellowship in Lebanon, TN. He and His wife Kathy have been married 30+ years and have two grown children, Ryan and Julie.

Understanding new issues & new purpose in the marriage relationship after the children are grown and gone.


oikos: THE PARENTING

DISCIPLinE (Lab 3 option: W.C. 1)
Discipline is a must in a child’s life & understanding the growth process & your child’s developmental stages are key to making a disciple that is ready for his or her next stage of life.

Dr. Peter Held is the Senior Fellow for Christian Worldview/Professor of Christian Thought and Biblical Studies at Bryan College in beautiful Dayton, TN. His higher education journey started at John Brown University as he earned a B.S. in Business. After this, Dr. Held pursued a M.A.E. in Counseling from the University of Alabama - Birmingham. From U.A.B. he went to Dallas Theological Seminary and attained a Th.M. in Bible Exposition. Peter's latest stop was at the University of Alabama where he received an Ed.D. Higher Education Administration degree. Dr. Held has spoken toward many different topics. Among his topics of expertise are:

How does a Biblical world view & the 5 areas of human development play into parenting? How does knowing these areas of the human growth help us understand when and how different biblical concepts can be most effectively introduced in the home? Just how much of the Bible, Jesus, and church can you put into family life?

Mickey Clark is the Associate Pastor of Students at The Church at Grace Point, in Cleveland ,TN. After graduating from Mt. Juliet High School (Middle TN), Mickey moved on to Union University where he earned a B.A. in Religion/Church Ministry (Youth). He then received his M.A. in Christian Education from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Fort Worth, TX. Mickey married his wife Amy in 1997. They now have three children, Easton, Braydon, and Addison. Mickey's favorite things to do are: date nights with Amy Lou, play with his kids, golf, being involved with the Fellowship of Christian Athletes, and Tennessee Volunteer football . Mickey's life verse is Proverbs 16:3, "Commit your works to the Lord, and your plans will be established."







The Lifelong Parent (Lab 1 option: W.C. 2)
How to effectively parent your child even after they have left the house, & understanding the role of being a grandparent.

Jim & Ann Gatlin are natives to Cleveland, TN. THey have Experienced many ups and downs in their marriage journey with kids in the house and since they have been out of the house. They have a heart to encourage parents by sharing their story.

Raising modern day knights & princesses when you are the only ruler in the castle (Lab 1 & 3 option: W.C. 3)
Single parenting is tough, but possible. How to be a single parent and raise a modern day knight and/or princess that will live to glorify the King.

Lisa Rhea, a resident of Ooltewah, TN, has been a single parent for 19 years. Having just recently married her daughter to a godly young man, Lisa is now having the time of her life in this new season of life. She is passionate about Women's Ministry and digging into God's Word for all it's treasures, and is currently serving as the Women's Bible Study Coordinator at Westwood Baptist Church. She is excited about finding out what God has planned for the next step in her life journey. She hopes to encourage and inspire single parents in their journey of raising children.










 
oikos: THE FAMILY

A family that worships together, thrives together! (Lab 1 option: Stu-B 3)
Practical application of what it means to have “Family Worship”… it’s not all about devotions and singing in the living room.


Beth and Bob Burkey live in Athens, TN. The Burkeys have been married for 22 years. Their heart's desire is to live out their lives in Worship to the LORD and to share that love of the LORD with others. For them, Worship is a lifestyle, not just a Sunday event. They have 3 grown children & a nine year old son, Jeremiah. The Scripture that would best describe how they seek to live each day would be Psalm 119:175 -
" Let me live that I may praise you, and may your laws sustain me. "









The Missional Family (Lab 3 option: Stu-B 2)
How to be a family on mission. Finding your family mission, purpose, and practical ways of living it out.


Pastor Work, a three-year veteran of the U.S. Army,  earned his Bachelor of Business degree in 1984 from Belmont University in Nashville, Tennessee, his Master of Divinity degree in 1987 from the Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Fort Worth, Texas, and his Doctor of Ministry degree in 2000 from Luther Rice Seminary in Atlanta, Georgia.  He has been married to Dana since 1985, and they have two children.  Reid is ministering with Live Action Ministries and Mary Kate is a junior at Lee University .  Pastor Work has served as senior pastor in five different churches in 25 years of ministry.  He has been the pastor at Candies Creek since 1998.








Media Wise (Lab 3 option: Stu-B 1)
Understanding effective ways & the importance of filtering the media your family takes in on a daily basis, & your role of involvement. (TV, Radio, Internet, Games, Music, etc.)

Mitchel Laman will join Mickey Clark for this Lab as well...Mitchel Laman serves as the Director of Business at McCright Technology Services in Chattanooga, TN. He has been developing IT systems since 1993 (that's dirt in Internet years).  He was raised and lives in Cleveland with his wife Lacy and two children, Lillian an Maxton.

Social networking, chatting, & texting seem to be taking over. With all this communication at our fingertips, how can a family protect itself & each other in a world that is consumed with constant chatter?
